Position Overview: This is a Senior Software Engineer position in the Platforms group within Production Engineering Team. The chosen candidate will be one of the primary person to work on design and development of Delivery Intelligence service which among other items include designing data model and data processing methods, developing D3.js visualizations and integrating the Delivery Intelligence system to various other Thomson Reuters applications/tools/services. Responsibilities and Duties • Develop, analyze and maintain tools that automate processes for Delivery Intelligence using SQL Server database concepts and latest web application software development technologies like D3.js etc. • Authors new and maintains existing standards and best practices around data processing, data visualizations, web UI design and web development. • Build tools and process around open source code scanning (Blackduck Protex). • Ensure source code and tools are stored in source control and automated builds are setup for each deliverable. • Support other developers in the team around web development. • Work with others to complete analysis, evaluations and design alternatives and to implement process improvements. Competencies, Qualifications and Experience Technical • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and minimum 5 years experience in application software development. • Web UI Development experience - should be very strong on Database and Java Script side. • Experience of developing in Windows and Unix/Linux environments. • A solid understanding of database concepts with good ability to write SQL Scripts • Knowledge of relational database systems (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle) • Should have experience of making performance improvements in web applications • Strong understanding of programming concepts; product versioning, tagging and building; source control, and supportable, repeatable process. • Additional software engineering skills includes: o Glassfish Application Server o XML, XSL-T, Microsoft XML parser or knowledge of other XML standards o Good understanding of unit testing methodologies o IIS 7 o HTML, Batch Script, Shell Script • Knowledge of IT-industry accepted configuration management practice s, policies, and procedures. Experience in all phases of structured application software development life cycle. • Knowledge of the software development/integration process, customer operations, and Configuration Management in a heterogeneous computer platform environment. Non-Technical • Proven leadership and technical mentoring abilities • Must be fluent in English with the ability to communicate clearly and lead a technical conversation on any of the above technologies • Candidate shall be self-motivated and driven to succeed under adverse conditions • Creative thinking with the ability to look beyond standard practices to meet a required deadline or change a current standard policy that is in place • Limited travel necessary between company sites. Desired • Personally developed or worked with a team to develop a form or web application that provided data to more than 1,000 clients. • Experience with D3.js technology • Experience with Subversion (SVN) • Knowle dge of other Microsoft products which includes, but is not limited to, SharePoint, Exchange.
