Academic Case Study: Professor John McBride. CEO of the University of Southampton, Malaysia campus In around 2008, the University of Southampton was invited by the Malaysian Government to open an engineering faculty at Educity. Educity was planned to have faculties from different international universities all based on one campus, and Southampton was chosen for their engineering faculty. Starting out as just an idea, the engineering campus was built up in just 2 years, including arranging everything from legal processes and discussions with the government to construction and staffing. Now that the University of Southampton Campus is recruiting for a Chief Executive Office and Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor John McBride, who has been the CEO of the Malaysia campus since 2012, spoke to us about why it's such a great role, how to prepare for the move, and how working overseas can be a huge career boost.
