6 steps to increase your chances of getting short listed for a job

6 steps to increase your chances of getting short listed for a job

1. Update your profile regularly: Make sure you update your profile at least once in 3 months. You would have added new skills, taken up new responsibilities, handled new area in work, become more proficient on existing skills etc. At the least your no. of years of experience would have increased. A profile with 4 years and 10 months experience and not updated for 3 months would not make it to the recruiters when they search for candidates with more than 5 years of experience.

2. Resume Headline: Update your resume headline to reflect your summary of experience in few words. Resume headline is one of the very few parameters that catch the attention of the recruiters. The more precise it is, the more chances of getting noticed by recruiters. For example, “3 years experience in Java/J2EE” is better than “Experienced in software industry”. Similarly “Senior manager - operations in chemical and polymer industry” is more precise than ‘Executive in chemical industry

3. Fill in all relevant fields in your profile: Recruiters search candidates based on various parameters ranging from functional area, key words, education, current salary etc. Filling all relevant information will match your profile with more number of prospective employers and thus improve your chances of a shortlist. Make sure your profile completeness bar displayed in the My Naukri Home page* is close to 100%

4. Verify your contact details: Recruiters may sometimes hesitate to contact an unverified profile. When an employer sees that your mobile no. and e-mail id are verified, he would be more prompt to contact you directly. Also many recruiters prefer to use the sms facility to message a candidate.

5. Logging into your account regularly: Logging regularly will indicate to the recruiters that you might be actively looking for job and that you would be interested in their offer. Profiles that are dormant for many months send a signal that you are not looking for a new job.

6. Active Resume status: Check your current status of ‘Profile visibility’. Set your resume status to ‘Active’ if you are looking for a job. Other options like ‘Inactive’ and ‘Non-searchable’ reduce the visibility of your resume.

How to search for Jobs while chatting in Gtalk

How to Search for Jobs while chatting?

Here’s some great news for savvy internet users who spend more time on the social web.

Using Gtalk open APIs, Naukri.com developed a tool that enables all Gtalk users to search for jobs on naukri.com by simply chatting with our bot.

All you need to do is add “jobs@chat.naukri.com” to your friends’ list and you are ready to go.

If you are a Gtalk user - you can search and find jobs and if you are registered with naukri.com , you can also apply to the jobs that you like - using this medium.

Though the prime intent behind this tool was simplifying the online job-search experience for jobseekers, as a by-product - if your organization has blocked www.naukri.com - don’t fret cause this would help you search for jobs despite that ;-)

Moreover, if your boss is in your cubicle, he/she would not even come to know that you are searching for jobs on naukri.com !
