Support Manager DW Team - JD
We are seeking a Senior, seasoned Support Manager who is driven, focused, and passionate about leading a team of support
engineers who support one of the biggest Enterprise Data warehouses in the World. Within the data warehouse community,
the Amazon DW & BI team represents an elite squad dedicated to pushing the technology and boundaries farther than any
other company. Our plans focus on delivering timely and actionable information to the business who utilizes this
technology as a competitive advantage in analyzing and understanding consumer behavior, sales trends and unique
opportunities within the web community.
Some of the problems we need to solve in this space are: humongous volumes of jobs (millions/day) on 50+ heterogeneous
clusters (oracle, Redshift, EMR), data distribution and synchronization of hundreds of datasets across hundreds of
clusters, and ensuring that those millions of jobs are executed and completed on set SLAs.
You will lead a team focused on driving and executing challenging Support engineering problems at this scale with best of
operational excellence practices to our customers and help in building in next generation completely automated support
platform for amazon.com's EDW. Primary responsibilities will include managing a team of support engineers, 1 or 2 support
managers, interviewing, training and building a strong team, ongoing development of standard operating procedures and
accountability for setting and meeting DW goals. You will clearly articulate, through data, productivity gains achieved.
An ideal candidate for this role will have prior experience managing multiple customer-facing teams, lot of experience in
heterogeneous technologies in DW space (map/reduce, columnar DBs etc) and will be capable of technical deep-dives yet
verbally and cognitively agile enough to participate in strategy discussions with Amazon's senior management team.
Basic qualifications
Qualified candidates should have a Bachelors or Masters degree in computer science, MIS, or a related field. The candidate
should have at least 8+ years of management experience in a production environment, strong technical and analytical
aptitude and excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong understanding of scaling, performance and scheduling
